Duet for Washtub Cello and Musical Saw
The 8th NYC Musical Saw Festival took place Saturday, August 7th, 2010. These photos were all taken at that event.
The musicians are Sruli & Lisa Dresdner with Lisa on washtub cello and Sruli on musical saw.
That's a washtub cello that you see. I was fascinated by this handmade instrument. Yes, it was made from a real washtub.
Washtub Cello
Here's a close up of the washtub cello in action. It's really hand-made from a washtub. The top is plywood, the rest is pine. It's tuned down to reduce the tension on the strings and thus, the neck.
This is from the 8th NYC Musical Saw Festival. The washtub cello was played in a duet with a musical saw.
